Clerk appointed interim village manager

For three days last week, the Oxford Village clerk pulled double duty by filling in as village manager too.
Manager Mark Slown was on medical leave from Wednesday, Feb. 18 through Friday, Feb. 20.
In his absence, the village council via an “emergency telephone poll” appointed Clerk Rose Bejma interim village manager until Slown’s return to work on Monday, Feb. 23.
However, just to make sure everyone was done properly, council voted Feb. 24 to reconfirm Bejma’s brief appointment as interim manager.
“It’s merely record-keeping,” said village President Steve Allen of the reconfirmation vote.
Council’s annual evaluation of Slown’s performance as manager, originally slated for the Feb. 24 meeting, was postponed until March 9.
However, at last night’s meeting, local business owners Gene Hampton, Mark A. Young, Suzanne Ardelan and Dave Weckle and Oxford Community Development Authority Chairperson Sue Bossardet offered severe criticism of Slown’s management skills and urged council to find a new village manager.
A story about their comments will appear in next week’s issue.
