Brandon Twp. — During the regular Monday night meeting, the Brandon Township board of trustees voted 7-0 to release Brandon Township’s Opioid Settlement Funds in the amount of $12,882.85 to Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance to be used for their Opioid Remediation Program.
The township received several checks throughout 2023 for class action settlements to be used for opioid prevention programs.
“Jayson Rumball and I have had some back and forth for some time because we couldn’t prove what we could use those funds for to bring it down to our level,” said BGYA chairman Bob McArthur.
The proposed plan for BGYA to use the funds is for opioid prevention programs and media campaigns for public education.
“We just have to ensure it’s an evidence based program,” said McArthur. “BGYA has items we can use that money on.”
McArthur also said the money will be spent over a period of years.
“I can’t think of a better place for us to use our opioid settlement funds,” said Kathy Thurman, trustee.
