After competing in back-to-back meets Saturday and Sunday at Amber Way Stables in Groveland Twp., the OHS Equestrian Team won the district championship in the ‘A? and ‘C? divisions.
Oxford had riders competing in 17 classes (or events) each day.
In the ‘A? Division, Oxford’s total score of 707 points ? a combination of this weekend plus a previous meet, all of which OHS won ? blew away its five competitors. Second-place Brandon was the closest with 365 points.
In the ‘C? Division, Oxford again won all three of its meets with a combined total of 463 points. Second-place Lapeer West was the closest rival with 315 points.
Both the ‘A? and ‘C? division teams will compete in the regional championships at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds this weekend.
‘I think we always have a good shot (at winning),? said Coach Dee Shepard. ‘Oxford is a very strong team.?
If Oxford can place either first or second at the regionals, the team will qualify to compete at the state level.
Good luck, riders.
