Brianne Coxon has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind.
To earn academic honors at Saint Mary’s, a student must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale, have at least 12 graded credit hours, no incompletes, and no grades lower than a ‘C.?
Coxon is the daughter of Diane and Hal Coxon of Ortonville.

Erica Ricketts of Goodrich and Chelsea Perry of Ortonville have been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Columbia College Chicago.
To be named to the dean’s list at Columbia College Chicago, students must have taken at least 12 credit hours and have a 3.75 grade point average or above for that semester.

Chad Frownfelter of Goodrich was named to the dean’s list at Olivet Nazarene University during the recently completed spring semester.
To qualify for inclusion on the dean’s list, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.

Paige Allison Plant graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint in May with a bachelor’s degree in communications and public relations.
Plant is employed as the social media director of Ignite XDS, Brighton. She is the daughter of Mitch and Patty Plant of Atlas.

Matthew Scott Bohlen graduated from the University of West Georgia in May with a master’s degree in education administration.
Bohlen is employed at Baker College of Flint. He is the son of Patty and Mitch Plant of Atlas and Scott and Madge Bohlen of Goodrich.

Jennifer Brothers graduated from Michigan State University with honors on May 7, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in human development and family studies.
The 2007 Goodrich High School graduate will further her education in the fall at MSU in the master’s of social work program. She is the daughter of Bill and Donna Brothers of Goodrich.

Kalyn Lee Justice has been named to the dean’s list for the 2011 winter semester at Grand Valley State University.
The 2010 Brandon High School graduate is the daughter of Don and Lynn Justice of Ortonville.

Mark A. McElrath graduated April 30 from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a bachelor of arts degree in history from the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, and a secondary education certificate in history and political science. He is the son of Alan and Trisha McElrath of Goodrich.

Benjamin Pate of Ortonville, class of 2011, was honored at the Trinity College Chapel’s 61st annual honors day ceremony last month. During the ceremony, nearly 230 people were cited for scholarly and community-oriented achievements during their years at Trinity.
Pate won the second prize of the F.A. Brown Prizes. Founded by Martha W. Brown in memory of her husband, the prizes are awarded to students who deliver the best orations.

Sean J. Stringer graduated May 26 from New York University College of Dentistry as the valedictorian of his class.
Stringer and his wife, Chelsea, will move from New York to Colorado Springs, where he will be stationed at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is the son of Colleen and the late Ken Stringer of Goodrich.

William E. DeHerder III of Goodrich graduated Cum Laude from Central Michigan University on May 7 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology and creative writing. While at CMU, he made the deans list for five semesters, was a member of the CMU marching band and was featured in Central Review Literary Magazine. Bill will pursue a master’s degree at Central Michigan University in English-Creative Writing this fall.
The 2007 Goodrich High School graduate is the son of William DeHerder Jr. and Patricia Frisby DeHerder of Goodrich.

Rachel Burley of Ortonville graduated from Michigan State University on May 7 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Letters. The 2007 Brandon High School graduate will student teach in Mason this fall. She is the daughter of Dave and Dianne Burley.

Christy Robinson a 2010 Brandon High School graduate was one of 28 Alma College students ? 17 freshmen, eight sophomores and three juniors ? awarded the President’s Cup. The students earned the honor by achieving the highest academic standing in their respective classes at Alma College.
The tradition of the President’s Cup was started in 1968 by Alma’s ninth President, Robert D. Swanson. Students earning the honor receive a certificate acknowledging their achievement and have their name inscribed on the appropriate class (freshman, sophomore or junior) President’s Cup trophy. The trophies are kept on permanent display in the Reid-Knox Administration Building on campus.
Christy is the daughter of Brian and Cheryl Robinson of Ortonville.

Jonathan Askwig of Goodrich a computer network and system administration major and Daniel Leppek a biomedical engineering major also of Goodrich both were named to the Michigan Technological University Dean’s List for the spring 2011 semester. To be included, students must achieve grade point averages of 3.5 or higher.

Erica Iceberg of Ortonville was recently named to the Hope College Dean’s List for the second semester of 2010-11. Hope College is a four-year, co-educational, liberal arts college in Holland, Mich with an enrollment of 3,202.

Stewart Olney graduated from Michigan State University on May 7 with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry/molecular biology.
The 2007 Brandon High School graduate will attend Wayne State University in the fall to obtain his doctor of pharmacy degree. He is the son of Dave and Jane Olney of Ortonville.

Nicolas David Brooks of Goodrich was inducted into the Alpha Omicron Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Mott Community College on April 1.
Brooks is majoring in public administration and services.
Phi Theta Kappa, established in 1918, is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world. Students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class to be invited to membership.

Spencer Warn graduated from Hope College on May 8 with a bachelor of arts degree in Japanese and philosophy.
He is the son of Chris Warn of Ortonville and Philip Warn of Milford.

Tiffany Underwood of Brandon Township has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at Oakland Community College, Highland Lakes campus. Tiffany is also a student at Oakland University, majoring in social work.
The dean’s list is reserved for students who have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
The 2006 Brandon High School graduate is the daughter of Nancy and Kevin Underwood.

Jeff Sallans has been named to the dean’s honor list for the fall 2010 semester at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
The 2010 Goodrich High School graduate has also received the Branstrom Award, which recognizes him for being in the top 5 percent of the freshmen class at U of M.
Jeff is majoring in computer science through the College of Engineering. He is the son of Monica and Gary Sallans of Goodrich.

Jireh Carpio De Jose has been named to the dean’s list at School of Fashion and the Arts in Manila, Philippines for the last semester of 2010.
SOFA is the Philippines? first specialized fashion college and is affiliated with Project Runway Philippines and Istituto Marangoni Fashion and Design School in Milan, Italy, Paris and London.
De Jose, a 2009 Brandon High School graduate, is also a physical education teacher of street dancing in Messiah College in Quezon City, Philippines. She is the daughter of Oseas and Bim De Jose of Ortonville.

Rachel Giza, a 2009 Goodrich High School graduate, and Chloe Grounds, Christy Robinson, and William Tahaney, all 2010 Brandon High School graduates, have been named to the dean’s list at Alma College for the fall 2010 term.

Andrew Grix has been named to the dean’s list at Ferris State University and the College of Arts and Sciences for the fall 2010 semester.
The 2010 Brandon High School graduate is in the honors and pre-pharmacy programs at FSU. He is the son of Gayle and Anthony Grix of Brandon Township.

Kaitlin Grost has been named to the dean’s list at Central Michigan University for the fall 2010 semester.
The 2008 Brandon High School graduate is majoring in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Tim and Colleen Grost of Brandon Township.

Owen is a freshman majoring in political economy. He is the son of Philip and Ann Owen of Goodrich.

Andrew Slade has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University.
The chemistry major and 2010 Goodrich High School graduate is the son of Jim and Mary Ann Slade of Goodrich.

Emily Katherine Armstrong has been named to the dean’s honor list with a 4.0 grade point average for the fall 2010 semester at Michigan State University-Honors College.
Emily is enrolled in the College of Natural Science, majoring in human biology. The 2010 Goodrich High School graduate is the daughter of Blair and Amiee Armstrong of Atlas Township.

Nicholas Schummer has been named to the president’s list at Northwood University for the fall 2010 semester with a 3.94 grade point average.
Only 4.8 percent of Northwood University students are eligible for the president’s list.
Schummer, a 2010 Brandon High School graduate, is majoring in finance. He is the son of Debbie and Jeff Schummer of Groveland Township and the brother of Matthew.

Jacqueline Simonson has been named to the Albion College dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester.
To be named to the dean’s list at Albion, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above at the completion of the semester. This GPA must be based on at least three units in graded courses and a minimum of four units completed.
Simonson is majoring in English and political science, with a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for
Leadership in public policy and service. She is the daughter of Mary Duerksen of Ortonville.

Christopher Davis and Ian Williams, both of Ortonville, have been named to the dean’s honor roll at Lawrence Technological University for the fall 2010 term.
Davis is majoring in architecture. Williams is majoring in mechanical engineering.
To be named to the honor roll at Lawrence Technological University, a student must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average for the term.

Christy Robinson was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at Alma College. She is studying to be an anesthesiologist.
The 2010 Brandon High School graduate is the daughter of Brian and Cheryl Robinson of Ortonville.

Trevor J. Trudell was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
The 2010 Brandon High School graduate is enrolled in the U-M College of Engineering and is the son of Terry and Jereen Trudell of Brandon Township.

Alan C. Cole was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at Eastern Kentucky University with a 3.6 grade point average.
Cole is in the top ranking ROTC program where this semester he was promoted to E-5 (sergeant), received two physical fitness awards and the Kentucky Merit Ribbon given for exceptional performance of assigned duties.
He is the son of Tom and Kathy Cole of Ortonville.

Hannah Stowers, a 2010 Brandon High School graduate, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Central Michigan University. She is the daughter of Russ and Holly (Downing) Stowers.
Daniel Penix of Ortonville has been nominated for placement at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Penix was among 34 Michigan students to be nominated for placement to service academies by U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.
‘I am proud that so many exceptional students from our state are willing to serve our country though military service,? said Stabenow. ‘These individuals have demonstrated their excellence in and out of the classroom, and I am confident that they will represent Michigan well.?

Jamel Chokr graduated with high honors Dec. 12 from the University of Michigan Flint with a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in criminal justice and sociology. He was on the dean’s list all four years and was nominated for the prestigious Maize and Blue Award. Jamel plans to pursue a graduate degree and a career in international development.
Jamel is the son of Vikki and Dimitrie Toth of Brandon Township and Hassan and Zeneb Chokr of Sarasota, Fla.

Meredith Mayberry graduated cum laude Dec. 11 from Central Michigan University with a bachelor of science degree, majoring in English and journalism.
The 2006 Goodrich High School graduate served as a summer intern for The Citizen the past four years. She is the daughter of Nancy and Richard Mayberry of Atlas Township.

Travis Spry has received the Dow Chemical Company’s Systems, Applications and Products Award of Excellence. The Brandon High School graduate was awarded $500 by the Dow Chemical Company at a Dec. 3 luncheon for his exceptional academic achievements in the study of SAP, a highly regarded business software.
The Central Michigan University senior is majoring in management information systems. He is the son of Myke and Bill Spry of Ortonville.

Melissa Marble graduated with honors on May 2 from the University of Michigan ? Flint with a bachelor of fine arts degree.
The 2005 Brandon High School graduate remained on the dean’s list throughout her years at U of M. Marble plans to work on her master’s degree to pursue a career in teaching art at the university level. She is the daughter of Victoria Marble of Goodrich.
Alexis Dickie, a Brandon High School senior, was one of nine students to receive the Congressional Medal of Merit from 8th District Congressman Mike Rogers last week at the Michigan State Capitol Building.
Students are nominated for the honor by their schools based on academic and community service criteria. Each of the students have demonstrated exemplary citizenship and educational excellence throughout their high school careers.

Amy Garner graduated from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio on May 1 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
The 2006 Oakland Christian School graduate is the daughter of Jeri and John Garner of Ortonville.
Joyce Schwartz graduated from Eastern Michigan University on April 25, receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing with university honors, summa cum laude (3.9-4.0 GPA).
The 2006 Brandon High School graduate plans to work in the nursing profession and further her education in the near future to become a nurse practitioner.
She is the daughter of John and Janice Schwartz of Ortonville.
Renee Stachelek graduated summa cum laude on May 1 from Oakland University with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. The 2005 Brandon High School graduate majored in language arts, minored in mathematics and had a cumulative grade point average of 3.92.
Stachelek is the daughter of Henry and Linda Stachelek of Ortonville. She will pursue a career as an elementary or middle school teacher.
Dayna Stamper was named to the dean’s list for the winter semester at the University of Michigan where she is a communications major. This is her fourth continuous year of being on the dean’s list. She will graduate in December with honors.
Dayna, a 2005 Brandon High School graduate, has accepted an internship this summer with McCann Erickson, an advertising firm, to further her studies. She is the daughter of Tom and Patty Stamper of Ortonville.
Jenny Stratton recently graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a bachelor of science degree in molecular biology.
The 2004 Brandon High School graduate plans to attend pharmacy school at U-M next year. She is the daughter of Kenny and Marilyn Stratton of Brandon Township.
Matthew Bulliner of Goodrich and Chass Bakker of Ortonville were named to the dean’s list at Kettering University for the winter 2010 semester.
Bulliner is pursuing a computer science degree, while Bakker is working on a mechanical engineering degree.

To achieve president’s list recognition, students must earn a 3.85 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Savannah S. Stedman of Ortonville has been named to the dean’s list for the winter term at Northwood University, where she is a sophomore.
To achieve dean’s list recognition, students must earn a 3.25 grade point on a 4.0 scale.
Jason Sheldon, a Brandon Middle School teacher, has been named a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholar.
Sheldon was selected from a national applicant pool to attend one of 22 summer study opportunities supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The NEH is a federal agency that each summer supports landmarks of American history and culture workshops so teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines.
Sheldon will participate in a workshop entitled ‘America’s Industrial Revolution.? The 1-week program will take place at The Henry Ford. The eighty teachers selected to participate in the program each receive a $1,200 stipend to help cover their travel, study, and living expenses.

Goodrich senior Derek Warner has committed to Trine University in Angola, Ind., to play basketball and study pre-law and business following graduation from GHS. Warner has been a member of the Goodrich Varsity Basketball program since his sophomore year, participated in varsity cross country, track and tennis. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been very active in the community, having completed more than 175 hours of community service.?
‘Trine University Men’s Basketball Program is coached by Rob Harmon, who has recruited Derek to step into the program as a shooting guard this next season. Trine University’s athletic program has recently become an NCAA member, which will give them the opportunity to compete in NCAA tournaments.

Savannah Stedman, a 2007 Brandon High School graduate, has been named to the dean’s list at Northwood University, where she also plays on the women’s basketball team. She is the daughter of Dennis and Sher Stedman of Ortonville.
Christopher Nuccio of Ortonville received an undergraduate degree from Kettering University during the December 2009 commencement ceremonies. The Brandon High School graduate is the son of Beth and Joe Nuccio of Ortonville.
Eric Yahrmatter of Ortonville was named to the dean’s list at Kettering University for the spring 2009 semester.The honor is given to students who have attained a minimum weighted grade average of 92.0 out of a possible 100, have received no grades below 85 and have earned a minimum of 16 credits during the term.

Stewart Olney has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University. Olney, who is majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology/biotechnology, is the son of David and Jane Olney of Ortonville.

Michael Cybulski graduated from Michigan State University in December with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering. The 2005 Brandon High School graduate is employed as a risk management consultant at Deloitte & Touche in Detroit. He is the son of John and Nicki Cybulski of Holly.
David Garr has been named to the Albion College dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester. Students named to the dean’s list must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above. The Goodrich High School graduate is a freshman at Albion and the son of David and Christina Garr of Goodrich.
Sarah Bond was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at the University of Michigan-Flint with a 3.5 grade point average while maintaining full-time status. Bond, a 2006 Brandon High School graduate, is majoring in Spanish, with a minor in psychology. She is the daughter of Larry and Mary Bond of Goodrich.
Jillian Zirnhelt and Jolynn Zirnhelt have been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2009 semester at Grand Valley State University. Jillian is a 2006 Goodrich High School graduate and senior at GVSU majoring in international relations and economics. Jolynn is a 2008 Goodrich High School graduate and sophomore at GVSU majoring in psychology and criminal justice. They are the daughters of Tim and Janell Zirnhelt of Hadley Township.

Tyler Cole graduated from the University of Michigan Honors College in Ann Arbor on Dec. 20.
He received a bachelor of science degree in microbiology with a 4.0 GPA. Tyler also received the Certificate of Research Excellence Award from the Student Biomedical Research Program at the University of Michigan Medical School. The 2006 Brandon High School graduate is continuing his research at U of M and will attend medical school in the fall. He is the son of Tom and Kathy Cole of Brandon Township.

Ashley Wester, a 2006 Brandon High School graduate, has graduated from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
Ashley graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology and is interviewing with pharmacy schools this month. She eventually aspires to become a clinical pharmacist working in a university or other teaching hospital, possibly specializing in pediatrics. She currently works as a certified pharmacy technician at Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan Health System, as well as at CVS Pharmacy in Ann Arbor. She is the daughter of Stacey Thomas Wester and Bill Wester, both formerly of Ortonville.

Western Michigan University released its graduation list for summer 2009 this week.
Among the graduates are Ryan R. Pfeiffer of Goodrich, who received a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice; Jacob D. Cinader of Ortonville, who received a bachelor of science degree in construction engineering; and Karyn L. McKinzie of Ortonville, who received a bachelor’s of social work degree.

Academics
Kevin M. Pugno, of Ortonville, recently graduated from Northwood University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Brittni Bates of Goodrich was named to the dean’s list at Oakland University for the Fall 2008-Winter 2009 school year. In order to be eligible for the dean’s list at Oakland, students must receive above a 3.60 GPA for both consecutive semesters. This fall Brittni will begin her year-long student teaching internship at Bailey Lake Elementary in Clarkston. She is the daughter of Mike and Cathy Bates of Goodrich.

Anna Marie Slogor graduated with high honors June 6 from Goodrich High School. She will attend Michigan State University in the fall. Her sister, Louisa Lynn Slogor, graduated magna cum laude from Western Michigan University on April 27 with a bachelor’s degree in math and secondary English.

Teresa Jackson of Brandon Township graduated magna cum laude from Baker College of Auburn Hills on June 13 with an associate’s degree in business management.
She is currently employed at Faurecia in Auburn Hills and will begin the accelerated bachelor’s degree program at Baker in the fall, studying business.Teresa is married to Max and is the mother of Kyle, Katie and Jessica.

Kelly Fox – Kelly Fox has graduated Summa Cum Laude from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. with a bachelor’s degree in the science of religion with an emphasis on women’s ministry. Kelly is now working at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, Va.

Patrick L. Herta – a Brandon High School junior, has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.
The NSHSS recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. Membership in the society entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items, and publicity honors.
Patrick is the son of Pat and Denise Herta of Ortonville and grandson of Dennis and Donna Schumacher of Hubbardston, Mich. and David and Fritz Jackson of Clarkston.

Brittany Holderbaum – was honored with the Brandon High School 2009 Career and Technical Education Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement on April 30. She was selected by the BHS business teachers for her expertise in the career and technical education program. She has also earned Microsoft Expert Certification.
Brittany will attend Northwood University in the fall where she will double major in sports-entertainment promotion and management.
She is the daughter of Ryan and Michelle Holderbaum of Ortonville.

Bradley M. Lawrence – graduated from Michigan State University on May 9, receiving a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and psychology with high honors.
He plans to continue his education next year at Northwestern University, pursuing a doctorate degree in neuroscience.
The 2005 Brandon High School graduate is the son of Mike and Laura Lawrence of Groveland Township.

Jessica (Bishop) Toutant – a 2003 Brandon High School graduate, recently received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oakland University. She will continued to apply her knowledge in management of an Ortonville adult foster care home that serves the mentally ill and elderly. Now that her degree is behind her, Jessica and her husband of almost two years, Steven, are eager to start their family.
Jessica is the daughter of Kim Bishop of Ortonville.

Cody Hibbs has been selected to represent Brandon High School as the Congressional Medal of Merit Award recipient.
The award recognizes hard work and dedication in academics and service to the community and will be presented during a ceremony May 1 at the State Capitol in Lansing.
Hibbs, a BHS senior, is the son of Darryl and Jenny Hibbs.

Scholarships

Amanda Grix and Ashley Rollman were among 125 students selected to receive a 2009 scholarship award from the Gleaner Life Insurance Society Scholarship Foundation.
Grix, a 2008 Brandon High School graduate, received a $1,000 Gleaner Scholarship Foundation Award. She attends Ferris State University- Honors College and is majoring in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Gayle and Anthony Grix of Brandon Township.
Rollman, a 2009 BHS graduate, received a $1,000 Glen Arbor Award. She will attend Oakland University majoring in mathematics and education and is the daughter of Andrea and Steve Rollman of Ortonville.

Andrea Michelle Sorenson was inducted into the Alpha Omicron Kappa Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Oakland Community College April 30.
Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world. Students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class to be invited to membership in Phi Theta Kappa and must maintain high academic standing during their enrollment in the two-year college.
Northwood University

Kortni N. Elsworth of Goodrich, Kevin M. Pugno of Ortonville and Mitchell J. Walker of Ortonville have been named to the dean’s list for the winter term at Northwood University.
To achieve dean’s list recognition, students must earn a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Saginaw Valley State University
Kaitlin M. DuCharme, Anna K. Stodola, and Scott L. Thurman, all of Ortonville, have been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2008 semester at Saginaw Valley State University.

To earn a place on the dean’s list at SVSU, an undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of accepted classes and maintain a grade point average between 3.4 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.

Amanda Bishop

Amanda Bishop, a 2005 Goodrich High School graduate, is one of 13 Alma College students selected for membership in Phi Betta Kappa, America’s oldest and most prestigious scholastic honorary society. New members were announced April 2 at Alma’s 2009 Honors Convocation.

Phi Beta Kappa recognizes excellence in liberal education, stressing intellectual discipline and achievement. Members are selected on the basis of their outstanding academic achievement in the traditional arts, sciences and humanities. Eligibility requires at least a 3.75 grade point average (GPA) for a junior and a 3.50 GPA for a senior. Among other requirements are proficiency in college mathematics and a foreign language. Alma College’s chapter is one of 270 in the United States, and one of seven in Michigan.
Bishop is the daughter of Mary Bishop of Goodrich.

Grand Valley State University
The following Grand Valley State University students were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2008 semester: Christian Goetz, Stefan Goetz and Mary Haiderer, all of Goodrich, and Alexander Atkin, Michael Lowis, Megen Miller and Daniel Rickabus, all of Ortonville.
To be named to the dean’s list at GVSU, students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits.

Kettering University
Lincoln John Lorenz of Goodich and Matthew Charles Sornig of Ortonville graduated from Kettering University in December, both with bachelor of science degrees in computer engineering.

Stacy Marie Isbell

Stacy Marie Isbell has been recognized by Michigan State University for her outstanding academic achievement by earning a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall 2008 semester.
The 2007 Brandon High School graduate is a sophomore at MSU, majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Rob and Kay Isbell of Groveland Township.

Lawrence Tech University

Christopher Davis, Alexandra Sowa and Ian Williams, all of Ortonville, have been named to the dean’s honor roll for the fall 2008 semester at Lawrence Technological University.
To be named to the honor roll, a student must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA for the term.

Amanda Bishop of Goodrich has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2008 term at Alma College.
The Goodrich High School graduate is a senior at Alma College.
To earn a place on the dean’s list, students must achieve a 3.5 or better grade point average during a term while carrying a minimum of 13 credits, at least eight of which are evaluative grades.

Cheryl Brooks

Cheryl Brooks has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2008 semester at Malone University in Canton, Ohio.
To be named to the dean’s list at Malone, a student must carry a minimum of twelve credit hours and receive a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
Cheryl is a 2006 Brandon High School graduate and is majoring in social work at Malone. She is the daughter of Bob and Linda Brooks of Ortonville and the granddaughter of Bob and Mary Lou Brooks of Oxford and Cornelius and Dina Petiet of Grand Rapids.

Rachel Lynn Burley

Rachel Lynn Burley has been recognized for outstanding academic achievement with a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2008 semester at Michigan State University.
Rachel, a 2007 Brandon High School graduate, is majoring in French with a minor in geology and plans to graduate from the College of Education at MSU in 2012. She is the daughter of Dave and Dianne Burley of Ortonville.

Kassandra Mary Hennig

Kassandra Mary Hennig has been named to the dean’s honor list for the fall 2008 semester at Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University.
To earn a spot on the dean’s list, students must achieve a minimum 3.5 GPA.
The 2008 Brandon High School graduate is majoring in psychology and recently transferred to Oakland University.
Kassandra is the daughter of John and Trish Hennig of Brandon Township.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, has nominated two students from the area for military academy appointments.
Tyler Gorney, a Brandon High School senior, has been nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY. Tyler is the son of Phil and Brenda Gorney of Clarkston.
Lukas Heller, a senior at Clarkston High School, has been nominated for entry into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Lukas is the son of Joseph and Margaret Heller of Ortonville.
Nominees are selected from applicants who meet specific criteria. Each applicant is interviewed by a community committee established by Rogers. The committee makes recommendations for the successful nominees whose names are submitted to the military academies of their choice for consideration. Academies require a Congressional recommendation for appointment consideration.
‘Nominees for appointments to the military academies have demonstrated strong character, leadership potential and achievement in academics,? said Rogers. ‘We are very proud of them and I am pleased to have nominated them to the academies.?

Courtney L. Martin

Courtney L. Martin graduated Dec. 14 from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, with a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering.
While a student at U-M, the 2003 Goodrich High School graduate had working internships with TRW in Plymouth, Ball Aerospace in Colorado, and Kohler in Wisconsin. She accepted a position with her latest internship at Adaptive Materials in Ann Arbor, where she currently resides.

Jennifer Ikeler

Jennifer Ikeler, a senior at Brandon High School, has been awarded the Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees Academic Recognition Scholarship, commencing for the fall 2009 semester.
Jennifer is the president of the National Honor Society and is planning on majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Derek and Joan Ikeler of Brandon Township.

Bonnie Lusty

Bonnie Lusty, of Atlas Township, graduated magna cum laude from Central Michigan University on Dec. 13. She received a bachelor of applied arts degree in recreation, parks and leisure facility management. She is currently seeking a position in hotel and resorts management.
Bonnie is a 2005 graduate of Powers Catholic High School and the daughter of Jim and Lynn Lusty of Goodrich.

Katie A. Bradley, Amelia M. Pingatore, Miranda J. Pyles and Charlie G. Richards, all of Goodrich, have been named to the dean’s list at Saginaw Valley State University for the winter 2008 semester.

Marie McDonald has been named to the dean’s list at Central Michigan University for the spring semester. The 2007 Brandon High School graduate is majoring in secondary education, social studies.
She is the daughter of Charles and Debra McDonald of Ortonville.
Roy Reynolds
Roy Reynolds graduated July 11 from Northwood University in Midland with a bachelor’s degree in entertainment sports promotion management.
Roy was a relief pitcher for the Northwood Timberwolves for three years and plans to coach baseball while pursuing his career in the Detroit metro area.
The 2004 graduate of Brandon High School is the brother of Ray, a 2006 BHS graduate, and the son of Danny Reynolds and Beth Reynolds, both of Ortonville.

Jennifer & Jaclyn Brothers
Jennifer Brothers has been named to the dean’s list at Michigan State University for the spring semester. The 2007 Goodrich High School graduate is pursuing a career in child development.
Jaclyn Brothers has been named to the dean’s list at Central Michigan University for the spring semester. The 2004 Goodrich High School graduate is pursuing a career as a physician’s assistant.
The sisters are the daughters of Bill and Donna Brothers of Goodrich.
Hayley Coxon
Hayley Coxon graduated from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind. with a bachelor of business administration degree on May 17, receiving magna cum laude honors.
The 2004 graduate of Powers Catholic High School is the daughter of Diane and Hal Coxon of Ortonville.
Bryan Duggan
Bryan Joseph Duggan graduated from Kettering University in Flint on June 14 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, receiving summa cum laude honors. He will be pursuing his master’s degree at Stanford University this fall.
The 2004 Brandon High School graduate is the son of Susan and Bradley Duggan of Ortonville and grandson of Paul and Geri Duggan of Goodrich and the late William and Josephine Fitzpatrick.
Katrina Hibbs
Katrina Hibbs earned a place on the dean’s list for the 2007-08 academic year at Central Michigan University. The 2007 Brandon High School graduate is majoring in education and is the daughter of Jenny and Darryl Hibbs of Groveland Township.
Amy Sakalian
Amy Sakalian received with honors her associate degree in applied science/fashion merchandising management from the Fashion Institute of Technology, State University of New York in May. She has been accepted into the baccalaureate degree program in international fashion merchandising management and will study in New York and Florence, Italy.
The 2006 Brandon High School graduate is currently working for Thread Design/Thread Social in Manhattan and is the daughter of Cheryl O’Mara of Ortonville and Joe Sakalian of Birmingham.

Samantha DeRosia
Samantha DeRosia, a Brandon Middle School student, has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in English.
Students are recognized by the USAA upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors and upon the standards for selection set forth by the academy. The standards for selection include academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.
Samantha was nominated by BMS teacher Kathryn Brissette and will appear in the USAA’s official yearbook, published nationally.
She is the daughter of Jerry and Paulette DeRosia of Ortonville, and the granddaughter of Paul Martin of Flushing and Charles DeRosia of Clarkston.
Hailey Foco
Hailey Foco, a 2005 Goodrich High School graduate, recently completed her junior year at the University of Michigan School of Engineering in Ann Arbor and has been named to the dean’s list.
Hailey, the daughter of Wyatt and Terri Foco of Goodrich, is studying material science engineering and has accepted a summer internship with ArcelorMittal Steel in Cleveland.

Mandy Upton graduated from Baker College on June 7, receiving her bachelor’s degree in graphic art communications, with a minor in marketing.

Katelyn R. Gibilterra has been named to the dean’s list at Eastern Michigan University for the fall 2007 semester.
Katelyn, a 2006 graduate of Brandon High School, is majoring in education and is the daughter of Beverley Walker of Ortonville.

Christine Treacy of Ortonville graduated from Michigan State University in December with a bachelor’s degree in communication arts and journalism.
In January, Christine accepted a position with a Lansing newspaper, Lansing City Pulse, as editor of the ‘Out on the town? section. She resides in East Lansing.

Christopher Shier
Christopher Shier graduated Dec. 15 from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education in Spanish and physical education.
He earned Magna Cum Laude honors.
After studying abroad in Spain and traveling throughout Europe and Venezuela, Christopher served his internship at Holly High School. He has entered into a contract to teach in Santiago, Chile until August, at which time he may return to Michigan to teach.
Christopher is a 2002 Brandon High School graduate and the son of Frederick and Kimberly Shier.

Nicholas J. McElrath graduated Dec. 20 from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is currently employed full time for JP Morgan Chase and will pursue his master’s degree in divinity in September. He is the son of Alan and Trisha McElrath of Goodrich.

Jennifer Delasko
Jennifer Delasko was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Lake Superior State University in Sault St. Marie.

Tyler Cole maintained a 4.0 GPA at the University of Michigan’Ann Arbor in the Honors College for the fall semester.
Cole is a junior at U-M and is majoring in microbiology. He is the son of Thomas and Kathy Cole of Ortonville.

Angela Lusty
Angela Lusty was named to the Dean’s List at Michigan State University for the Fall 2007 semester. Lusty, a senior in animal science, pre-veterinary major and 2003 Powers High School graduate, is the daughter of James L. and Lynn Lusty of Atlas Township.
