After months of tweaking and fine tuning, Addison Township has a job description for a fire chief.
At the July 20 meeting, the board of trustees approved a motion from Trustee Ed Brakefield to accept the job description, including where to publish the job classified.
Clerk Pauline Bennett reported the township has already received four resumes from interested candidates since the job was posted on 911hotjobs.com and in Sunday’s edition of The Detroit News
‘We’re excited,? said Supervisor Bruce Pearson. ‘We have received a lot of calls already.?
He added some of the applicants are from Wyoming and Idaho and look forward to the move to Michigan if hired.
More should come as the last application accepted will be on Friday, August 28 at 3:30 p.m.
The Addison Township Fire Board will handle all of the applications and whittle them down to the top five. They will then present the top applicants to the township and Village of Leonard for interviewing.
The community has been without a fire chief since March when George Spencer resigned. Spencer was fire chief since June 1998 and started at a yearly salary of $35,000. The new fire chief would start at a base salary of $45,000 and could make up to $65,000 depending on experience.
Jerry Morawski has acted as interim fire chief since.
The fire board originally planned to have the job description ready in May and to have the township’s approval by June.
A special meeting was called on July 8 to have township attorney Robert Davis review the job description, the job agreement and public notice procedure.
The minimum qualifications for perspective applicants are:
*Associate degree or equivalent experience in the fire science or a related field,
*Fifteen years of fire experience, in which the experience may include paid on call, career or management positions,
*Ten years of management experience or command experience,
*Licensed Michigan EMT and Michigan Paramedic preferred.
*Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council Certified Fire Officer II & III preferred.
