Groveland Twp. – Because of its alarm system, a kitchen fire didn’t wipe out a family’s home.
Groveland Township firefighters were notified by the home’s alarm company at 7:45 a.m. May 6 of the fire in the 1700 block of Valley Ridge Road.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 7:51 a.m., said fire chief Steve McGee, who said the house was charged with smoke. Brandon firefighters joined in fighting the fire, spending approximately two hours extinguishing and ventilating the structure.
The home incurred smoke damage, as well as damage to the kitchen area.The family was not home at the time, said McGee, who said the fire was still being investigated.
‘They’re lucky they had an alarm system,? he said. ‘Otherwise there might have been much more damage. The house was in a remote area, and no one would have known unless a neighbor saw it.?
