Alcohol may have played role in possible drowning

Alcohol may have played a role in the death of a 49-year-old Oxford Township woman who was found in a swimming pool Sunday evening at her home in the 1900 block of Manalee Lane, just north of Indian Lake Rd.
The woman was identified as Suzanne Michelle Medaugh.
‘It appears to be a drowning because there was water in the lungs,? said Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Patterson, commander of the Oxford Twp. substation. ‘The official cause of death is pending (the results of) the toxicology report.?
According to the sheriff’s report, Medaugh’s 70-year-old boyfriend discovered her floating in the pool around 8 p.m. He told investigators he went to rest around 7 p.m. and was watching television while Medaugh was in the pool.
About an hour later, he went to the pool to give her a ‘kiss good night? and found her floating there.
Attempts by the boyfriend and Oxford firefighters to resuscitate Medaugh were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The boyfriend said Medaugh ‘had been drinking vodka heavily throughout the day,? according to the sheriff’s report. He also told investigators she was ‘an alcoholic and abused Xanax,? and was taking medication to treat her high blood pressure.
Medaugh’s death remains under investigation.
