Oxford High School juniors interested in spending a week this summer learning about the inner workings of government or pursuing a career in law enforcement can pick up applications in the counseling office. Candidates for this year’s Boys State and Girls State programs ? held on the Michigan State University campus in June ? can obtain applications from OHS Counselor Beth Worton.
Sponsored by the Michigan American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, both programs afford young people an excellent opportunity to learn how local, county and state governments work by participating in every facet of the democratic process from elections to public policy.
The Youth Career Law Enforcement Program (formerly known as Student Trooper), also sponsored by the American Legion and held at the Michigan State Police Training Academy in July, is geared toward students interested in pursuing a police career.
The program involves intense physical and educational training. Applications are also available through Worton.
OHS juniors interested in any of the above programs can call Chairperson Helen Smith at (248) 628-2255 for more information.
