Auto theft
At 10:23 p.m., April 29, Brandon deputies responded to the 4000 block of Butternut for a report of suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim, who stated his vehicle he had recently purchased was possibly stolen. He stated that he had bought the vehicle, which he had found online, from a woman. She gave him the keys and title for the vehicle, and he said he took the vehicle and drove home. When he arrived home, he compared the title he had been given to the title for his other vehicle and found that they did not match and he became suspicious and contacted 911.

Deputies checked both the license plate number of the vehicle and the VIN number, both searches turning up a result for a vehicle stolen out of Van Buren Township two days prior. The case remains open and forwarded to the Van Buren Township Police Department. Check out additional crime reports in today’s online edition.
