The end result was in the Goodrich soccer team’s favor May 12 ? but Coach Nigel Barnett was not a happy camper afterward.
The Martians rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat host Lake Fenton 3-2, improving their record to 8-4 overall and 8-3 in Genesee Area Conference play.
However, Barnett said Lake Fenton was taking liberties with the Martians? Natalie McCormick, and they should be punished accordingly.
‘The officiating was heinous,? he said. ‘We picked up a yellow card. McCormick got kicked, and they should have had a red card assessed against them. I was going nuts.?
The Martians? Amber Beard scored the team’s lone goal of the first half, and the team gave up two goals in the half.
However, Goodrich answered quickly in the second, as Amanda Bishop scored early in the period to tie the game at one. Meredith Mayberry connected on a penalty kick later in the half, and that would be all Goodrich needed. Goodrich outshot Lake Fenton 18-10 in the contest.
Things were a little less tense for the Martians in their May 8 at Swan Valley, as Goodrich cruised to an 8-0 victory. The Martians scored seven goals in the first half to put the game on ice.
Bishop scored three goals in the game, while McCormick added two, Mayberry one and Hayley Smith one.
