Almost 200 people showed up for the dedication of Kids Kingdom at Seymour Lake Park on Saturday.
The Kids Kingdom playground, built entirely by community volunteers over the Memorial Day weekend, is the first in what playground chairman Robert Martin hopes will be a series of projects creating local recreation at Seymour Lake Park for Oxford residents and their children.
‘That’s what Kids Kingdom is for,? Martin said. ‘Lets find a new project and make Oxford an even better place.?
‘Spread the word, I’m partial to a spray park,? Martin said.
While a water park is a goal to look forward to, Ron Davis, Director of Oxford Township Parks and Recreation, told the crowd of almost 200 that the short term goal for Kids Kingdom is to break ground next year for rest room facilities.
‘This is the spirit of Oxford,? said Oxford Village President Steve Allen, referring to Kids Kingdom. ‘I like to think it’s the first of many more projects in this community.?
‘It sends a message that community is paramount,? Allen said.
Davis said he was not surprised at the turnout for the dedication because of the amount of volunteers who worked tirelessly to get the project done.
‘You are awesome,? he told the crowd. ‘We are here to thank each other.?
‘It was much more of an undertaking completing the project than starting it.? Davis said.
