Blaze destroys garages, homes saved

Brandon Fire Department along with Groveland Township Fire Department responded to a multiple garage fire at the 2300 block of Allen Road on Bald Eagle Lake at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Brandon Fire Captain Mike Faust said when firefighters arrived the garages were completely engulfed in flames.
Power lines had fallen over Allen Road, however, Faust was unsure if they were related to the cause of the blaze. Detroit Edison Power Company and Consumers Energy repsonded to cut utilities to the structures. Firefighters soaked two nearby homes in an effort to pervent the fire from spreading. Both homes were damaged as the siding melted from the heat but the homes remained livable.
‘Both homes were within minutes of catching fire,? said Faust. ‘It would not have been long before both homes would have been engulfed.?
There were no injuries in the fire, two vehicles that were stored in the garages were destroyed.
Just about 5:15 p.m. Mary Setter, who lives with her daughter just across the street from the garages was awoken when the fire started.
‘I was just laying down when I heard a series of ‘pops,? said Setter. ‘So I went out on the porch and saw flames from the garage and saw the power lines fall across the street. I was afraid the power lines were going to fall on someone.?
Brandon Fire Department returned to the station one at 8:30. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
