Bones found in Bald Mountain are non-human

A 39-year-old Pontiac man feared he might have come across a child’s bones while hunting in the Bald Mountain Recreation Area off Greenshield Road on Nov. 8.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, a 29-year-old Holland Street man contacted deputies after the hunter came to him while he was outside raking leaves, and told him he had found bones of an unknown type and a child’s sheet in Bald Mountain. The hunter said the bones appeared small and possibly belonged to a child.
The Holland Street man walked with a deputy about 25 yards into the woods, where they found a “Garfield” type of bed sheet, surrounded by four bones with one sitting on the sheet.
The bones were tested by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office and found to be not human.
