An 18-year-old man who assaulted family members and then barricaded himself from police last weekend has been arraigned on charges.
Keyneal Toonay Alexander was arraigned on two counts of domestic assault and one count of resisting and obstructing police on June 16 by Sixth Circuit Court Magistrate Marie Soma.
According to police reports, Brandon deputies responded at about 9:45 a.m., June 15 to a home in the 3700 block of Birch. Alexander’s mother said she had told her sons to clean up the house and her 16-year-old son picked up a shoe and tossed it, hitting Alexander. The two began arguing and their mother told them to stop. The 16-year-old apologized for hitting his brother with the shoe, but Alexander struck his brother in the face. When their mother stepped in, Alexander pushed her to the floor to get to his brother, whom he then pushed to the floor and began kicking in the face. The girlfriend of a third brother witnessed the fight and took her 1-year-old daughter outside.
Alexander’s mother separated her sons and everyone was outside the home when police arrived, but Alexander retreated into the house and locked the door. Deputies from Independence and Springfield townships responded to assist and a perimeter was set up around the home.
Alexander was seen barricaded in the kitchen and deputies entered the home to find Alexander behind an overturned kitchen table, holding a chair in front of himself in a threatening manner. When he refused to drop the chair, a deputy deployed his Taser and Alexander was taken into custody without incident or injury.
His 16-year-old brother was taken to the hospital for a possible closed head injury and broken hand.
A preliminary exam for Alexander is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., June 25 in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Joseph Fabrizio.
