Oh deer
On March 28, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the area of S. Sashabaw and Sherwood roads to euthanize an injured deer in the roadway.
X-Box mystery
On March 29, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 4200 block of Sherwood Road for a home invasion. The complainant said an X-Box 360 game system was stolen from a second story bedroom. She suspects it was taken the day before, between 2-7 p.m. The case is open.
Loaded
On March 29, a Brandon deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle on Hawthorne for a cracked windshield. The driver’s license was suspended and he was patted down and asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle. He replied he had two guns in the trunk. Another deputy arrived and a vehicle search found a baseball bat and airsoft pistol on the backseat. In the trunk was a jewelry box with jewelry, a VCR, battery charger, backpack with wig and headband and two long guns? a Winchester 67-22 and a Sears 43-22, which was loaded. Further investigation determined the property was theirs. The driver was cited for transporting a loaded firearm and driving while license suspended.
Found
On March 29, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the area of Norris and Hurd roads for found property. The complainant had found several tool sets and an arc welder on the side of Hurd Road. During a check of the area, the deputy found a home in the 200 block of Hurd Road that had a garage door propped open with a tool chest. The garage had obviously been gone through and the homeowner was contacted and confirmed the found items were his.
Unusual
On March 30, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 4300 block of Wildwood Loop for larceny from an auto. The complainant said 5 cds valued at about $20 apiece were taken, and it would be unusual if she didn’t lock her car, but the passenger window doesn’t go all the way up.
April fool
On April 1, a Brandon deputy on patrol on Ortonville Road stopped a vehicle with a defective plate light near Oakwood Road. When the deputy turned on his emergency lights to make the stop, he noticed the driver reach into the backseat. A 12-ounce bottle of Labatt Blue beer was observed on the rear floorboard, 1/8 full. The man also had a marijuana pipe in his pocket. He was cited for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
Alarmed
On April 1 at about 3:24 a.m., a Brandon deputy was dispatched to a business in the 2200 block of S. Ortonville Road for an alarm. He found the back door propped open with an ink pen. The building was cleared and nothing found out of place.
Sending Bodi in
On April 1, a Brandon deputy and his partner, K-9 Bodi, were dispatched to the Holly Library, 1116 N. Saginaw, to track for a juvenile who had run away from Children’s Village. The juvenile had jumped through a window while escaping from a Holly police officer and ran into a wooded area. Upon arrival, the Brandon deputy and Bodi were tracking when they were approached by two girls who said they saw someone go into a nearby apartment building. While approaching the building’s basement laundry room, the deputy announced, ‘Sheriff’s K-9, come out or I will send in the dog.? A voice replied, ‘I’m right here.? The suspect was found between a washer and wall with no shoes on. He was bleeding from his hand and said he couldn’t move his legs. Medical assistance was called and he was turned over to the Holly Police Department.
No laughing matter
On April 2, a Brandon deputy on patrol on Oakwood Road near Shelmar observed a vehicle with a loud muffler. The deputy turned around to catch up and as he got closer, the driver of the suspect vehicle turned off his lights and turned into a private driveway. The driver’s license was suspended and a 14-year-old female passenger in his car admitted having cigarettes in her purse and said her mom lets her smoke. She laughed about the situation as she was being transported to her mother, who told the deputy her daughter had been in trouble before and was not straightening out. She was cited for possession of tobacco and curfew violation. The driver was cited for driving while license suspended.
