Ortonville – What was supposed to open prior to the first day of classes at Brandon schools, the South Street Bridge inched another step closer last week.
On Wednesday, officials were still waiting for carpenters to pin down the last-minute details of the walkway guard rails. Originally, the project, which started on June 13, was to be completed on Aug. 28.
However, Posen Construction assured village officials that the bridge would still be soon.
Miscalculations in soil saturation and depth delayed the project even further. Adding to the dely Posen discovered that pilings sunk further into the muck than expected. Further delays extended the closure when the bridge deck was delivered almost a week later than promised.
