Within the span of just a few months, a thin and frightened little dog went from being abandoned at a coal mine in West Virginia to finding a loving home in Michigan.
Camo, a 2-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog/pit bull mix profiled in the March 6 issue of the Leader, is in the process of being adopted by Corey Albertson, a 23-year-old resident of Washington Township.
He volunteers with the K-9 Stray Rescue League in Oxford, where Camo was brought to find a new leash on life.
‘He just kind of seemed nervous and scared, so I thought I’d help him get socialized,? Albertson said. ‘I got a little too attached and just brought him home.?
Camo was stressed out being housed in the rescue group’s kennel at 2120 Metamora Rd. Being surrounded by so many other dogs, made him timid and shy. He just couldn’t relax.
But now that he’s living at Albertson’s home, he’s ‘pretty much out of his shell? and bonding with his new master.
‘He’ll follow me around the house or around the yard,? Albertson said. ‘He doesn’t really go too far. He’s always pretty much next to me. When we go for a walk or I go jogging, he’s right there.?
Albertson indicated Camo is a good listener and catches on pretty quick when it comes to learning basic commands.
‘He’s a really smart dog,? he said.
