Oxford-Orion FISH received a significant financial boost from Oxford Township and Village last week.
The township board voted 7-0 to award the emergency services bid to the local nonprofit in the amount of $5,837, which works out to $4,353 from the township and $1,484 from the village. All of the money is from the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
FISH assists local folks in need by providing them with basic necessities.
From Nov. 15, 2012 to Jan. 10, 2013, FISH distributed 3,560 pounds of food and emergency supplies to village residents (at a cost of $5,340) and 8,240 pounds to township residents (at a cost of $12,360).
