Dear Editor:
This letter is in regards to the permit submitted by Long Lake Development, LLC. for the discharge of 50,000 gallons of sanitary ewage to the sand beds of Long Lake and surrounding areas of swamp.
This is a very small lake and swamp area. It is connected by flowing water into Huff Lake then into Lake Louise. For your information, the residents of Lake Louise spent $600,000 to build a new dam to hold the water level up, and every year each lot owner spends $450 for weed control to keep the lake as clean as possible. Why would you allow Long Lake Development, LLC. to discharge sewage into this water system? Their subdivision is planned to have 95 homes. That would be 95 homes? worth of sewage entering the water system in Ortonville and surrounding areas.
Long Lake Development, LLC. chose to clear 90 percent of the natural vegetation and build in an area that has challenges for sewage and water. According to the original plans they were to have their own efficient sewer and water system without any discharge into the surrounding lake and swamp. Why should they be allowed to pollute the whole water system?
I am strongly objecting to them receiving this permit. I would think that the Department of Natural Resources would also object to this atrocity. Please feel free to call or write your response.
