The Lake Orion Varsity Competitive Cheer Team took home a first place at districts on Feb. 21.
The competition took place in Lake Orion’s very own field house.
The Lady Dragons started out strong in first round with a 6 point lead. They scored 223.3 followed by Romeo with a score of 217.4.
With an extra boost of confidence coming out of first round the girls continued to increase their lead 14 points with a score of 236.8952 and a subscore of 460 after the first two rounds.
The Dragons were still followed by Romeo with a subscore of 440.0864 and Clarkson with 423.4656.
With such a strong lead the girls had no doubt they would earn the first place trophy going into third round.
The girls scored 308.2 in third round to give them a final score of 768.3952.
LO finished the competition with a 22 point lead ahead of Romeo in second with 746.8864, Clarkson in third scoring 719.1656 and Davison in fourth with a score of 699.0440.
The top four teams to place at districts continue on to the Regional competition.
Awards were also given out for athletes qualifying for the all-district team.
The honorable mention team, and runner-up district team were both announced at the competition.
Earning a spot on the first all-district team were junior Lisa Galasso and seniors Emily Walsh, Kayla Johns, Carly Pote, Joyce Smith and Devon Santamour.
‘We’re up against some pretty hard teams at regionals but I think we have a pretty good chance at winning,? said Captain Devon Santamour. ‘It would be great to earn what we lost last year and make it to states.?
The Lady Dragons will now continue their journey at the Regional competition Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Brighton.
