The holiday cheer is beginning to permeate the facets of Lake Orion society, and the police of downtown are no exception.
On Wednesday, Dec. 8, Twenty police officers, 16 fire fighters, and 20 National Guard soldiers volunteered to take Lake Orion area elementary students shopping at the Oxford Meijer for one night of unbridled joviality during the third annual ‘Shop with a Hero? event.
Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh said that the event was their most successful yet, with each child allotted a $150 gift card to spend on whatever they want.
‘The first year we had 20 kids, and last year we had 34, which was great,? said Narsh. ‘This year we had 56 kids, which is way over what we thought we were going to get, and on top of it, local businesses and private donors gave us $8000 for the event.?
‘I think this event shows that Orion takes care of Orion, and when Orion families are down, Orion folks will step up to help.?
