City to fight West Nile Virus

Clarkston is preparing to combat the mosquitoes from bringing in the West Nile Virus.
At their April 28 meeting, the City Council voted to accept funds from Oakland County in attempts to protect Clarkston from an infestation.
Clarkston will receive $372.68 from the Oakland County West Nile Virus Fund Program, which ‘authorizes expenses incurred with personal mosquito protection measures and activity, mosquito habitat eradication, mosquito larviciding or focused adult mosquito insecticide spraying in designated community green areas.?
Department of Public Works Supervisor Bob Pursley is in the process of obtaining bids from various companies for insecticide spraying.
Depot Park will be the main focus for the insecticide among other areas around Clarkston.
When asked if he is concerned about the virus coming here, City Manager Art Pappas said, ‘I think everybody is.?
Clarkston had no cases of the West Nile Virus reported last summer, Pappas said.
