Dear editor,
In talking about privatization of the district’s custodians, the Lake Orion Review reported the cost for custodians and supplies was reported as $6.1 million.
This cost needs clarification.
Over $3.2 million of this budget is for ‘supplies.? Supplies mean much more than just supplies. It covers repairs and maintenance in each building and all their equipment purchases.
The supplies themselves range from floor stripper, carpet mats for doorways, light bulbs, toilet paper, vacuum parts, chains for swings, and everything in between.
It is very important to show the community that the costs include so much more than just the custodians and their benefits. It is also necessary to remember these supplies, equipment, maintenance, and repairs are used by or benefited by the students, staff, the parents, and the community, as we have many after school programs and community programs in our schools. Thank you for your time in this matter.
Sincerely,
Sandi Engel, LOCS custodian
