Local musicians have a chance to be a part of the Clarkston Community Band right now. The group will start rehearsals for their 11th season on Sept. 5 and are currently looking to fill opennings in all sections.
Currently, the group has 50 register members rangings from age 14?80. Vince Chrisman, the music director who has conducted the concert band for three years, has increased membership and said he hopes to have the band perform in Canada this year as well.
Chrisman said he is excited about the upcoming season, which will include special performances at the annual Autumn Winds fall concert, Christmas in Clarkston, Wild West in the spring and a Star of Clarkston concert in conjuction with the Warren Astronomical Society.
The group also hosts regular performances throughout the year at community events such as the Clarksotn Connects Expo and the summer Concerts in the Park series.
All that is needed to join the band is an instrument and desire to play and $30 if you are an adult. With the band being a representation of the Clarkston community, no auditions are required. Chrisman said all musicians from the area ? from high school students to adults ? are welcome to join. Students are not charged a membership fee.
‘Making friends and music is the motto of the band and we have fun rehearsing and playing music for the community,? Chrismas said. ‘This band is friendly and enthusiatic and loves the sight-reading section of each rehearsal… The members come from all walks of life and this is true community music at its finest.?
The band meets weekly for rehearsals at Sashabaw Middle School.
