‘Click It or Ticket? turns up a surprise for deputies

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies got more than they expected when they pulled over an Oxford man at a ‘Click It or Ticket? check point at 9:25 a.m. this past Sunday.
The 51-year-old Oxford man was pulled over when deputies spotted him not wearing his seatbelt at the M-24 and Drahner Rd. seatbelt checkpoint. The deputy handling the stop noticed a heavy odor of intoxicants both outside and inside the vehicle.
The Oxford man told police he only had three beers that morning; however, the gentleman was unable to pass two of the three sobriety tests and rated a .140 on a breathalizer test. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Lake Orion Police Department where his PBT result was .16 around 10:20 a.m.
The Oxford man was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor (OUIL), driving with a suspended license and violating the safety belt law.
Police around the state were holding random ‘Click It or Ticket? check points throughout June 1.
According to Sergeant Joe Lambourn, the M-24/Drahner Rd. enforcement zone went from 8 a.m. until noon and saw 38 seatbelt citations in addition to the OUIL.
‘It went so well that we want to do it again later on just to keep up the push,? he stated.
‘Click It or Ticket? checkpoints were determined by the traffic and number of accidents in an area. The M-24 and Drahner Rd. intersection has a high traffic flow in addition to a high number of accidents yearly.
