Dotting the i’s for new senior center land

The final baby steps towards acquiring land for a new Independence Township senior center are being taken.
According to Independence Township Supervisor Dave Wagner and Clarkston Schools Superintendent Dr. Al Roberts, an agreement will be reached this week.
Both parties confirmed talks are completed. Roberts planned to turn the final documents over to township officials on Tuesday.
‘We’re ready to act on it. We have been ready to act on it. We’re very interested in establishing a partnership with the township,? said Roberts.
‘This is good,? said Wagner. ‘I’m expecting to receive the final approval from the district any day now and then our attorneys will do the final walk through.?
Township and school district officials are negotiating over approximately 2.5 acres located between the township library and Clarkston Schools administration building.
Wagner added that even though the land acquisition should be complete this week, planning and construction of a new senior center will take time.
