Oakland County girls? basketball rivals Lake Orion and Oxford are joining forces in a show of unity this month to help fight cancer in the third annual ‘Coaches versus Cancer? game at 7 p.m., February 19, at Lake Orion. The varsity teams from both high schools are dedicating the OAA league contest to raising valuable funds for the American Cancer Society. The special game will feature both teams dressed in cancer-busting uniforms, various fundraising efforts and other activities designed to raise awareness of the value of cancer prevention and treatment. In addition, the student bodies from both high schools are raising money for cancer research throughout the week. The night’s guest of honor is Joanne Smith, wife of the late Ian Smith, the Oxford basketball coach who died of cancer. Varsity coaches Steve Emert from Oxford and Steve Roberts from Lake Orion are looking forward to the special night on the hardwood. Everyone is welcome.
