Dunwoodie house fire investigated

Brandon Twp.- Police and firefighters responded to a blaze at 2050 Dunwoodie at about 6:28 p.m., March 9.
Two passersby called 9-1-1 after smelling and seeing smoke coming from soffits and attic vents on the roof. Brandon firefighters extinguished a small fire in the kitchen area of the unoccupied home.
According to police reports, several air rifle guns and evidence of marijuana growing equipment were found in a bedroom. The home sustained smoke, fire and water damage, but no major structural damage. Fire Chief David Kwapis said the home likely sustained $100,000 in damages from smoke and heat, and said it was likely smoldering for about an hour.
The homeowner’s son returned later and told police he built a shed to grow medical marijuana, but has not yet done anything because of township ordinances. He does have a medical marijuana card.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit.
