Margot’s Gallery & Frame is pleased to present the new works of artist Durwood Coffey from 7 to 10 p.m. April 23 and 24.
Using acrylics, Coffey brings all manner of animals from birds and insects to tropical fish and reptiles to vivid, colorful life.
‘Nature is colorful,? said Coffey, of Westland. ‘I like to bring out the colors, push the colors.?
Coffey worked as an illustrator in the advertising industry for 30 years, but has concentrated solely on his unique art for the last four years.
The colorful saltwater fish in his tank at home served as the original inspiration for Coffey’s art.
At the Oxford show, Coffey will unveil five new pieces and one unfinished piece, a work in progress.
‘It’s important for people to see the process,’said Coffey calling the unfinished piece a ‘window to what I do.?
More than 25 pieces of Coffey’s work will be on display with both originals and prints for sale.
‘I’m excited. I think it’s going to be a great show,? said Margot Van Horn, galley owner and director. ‘I’ve been looking forward to this for months. Durwood has a huge following because he does a lot of art fairs.?
