Family and friends gather to say thanks

Dozens of well-wishers turned out at the Clarkston Caf? last week to honor Mayor Sharron Catallo, who did not seek reelection after serving 16 years as mayor.
‘I’m grateful people came, and for all the nice things they said about me,? Catallo said. ‘But really, those nice things were more about the community itself, not so much about me or what I’ve done, because I didn’t do it alone.?
Large and small accomplishments in Clarkston over the years, she said, were achieved through collaborative efforts of community, city council and village staff.
‘If you don’t have all those things falling into line, you can just skip it,? she said. ‘You can have all the good ideas in the world, but you have to have the people to help execute those ideas if you’re going to be successful.?
Catallo served as village president before Clarkston incorporated in 1992. In February 1992, voters passed the city charter 206-194; shortly thereafter, Catallo was elected to serve as the City of the Village of Clarkston’s first mayor.
