Final visit downtown for former editor

Jean Saile took one last trip around Clarkston on Aug. 14.
Saile’s family carried her ashes through town before she was laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in Clarkston that afternoon.
On the cover of her urn was a photo of one of her experiences as a journalist, when she hopped inside a plane for a story.
Saile’s daughter Janet Whitefield said the photo of her mother getting into that plane was just how she would want to be remembered ? fearless.
Saile worked as Clarkston News editor from 1971-1977. She also worked as a reporter and editor for several other publications.
“Family” was a frequent topic of her weekly ‘Hill ‘n Gully? column, which is why she joined the CNews in the first place, Whitefield said.
Saile, who had six children, passed away on July 12, 2011.
