Dear Editor,
(In response to: ‘Consider common waste hauler,? The Citizen, Feb. 14, page 7):
This is the same bureaucratic ‘BS? Mr.DePalma pulled when we were talking about the Hatch Act last year. I, for one, am sick and tired of politicians making all this noise about how they are looking out for our best interest and they are just trying to help us. In this case DePalma is trying to help us manage our budget and help us save money, if I need that kind of help I won’t be going to a politician. What makes this country great is freedom to choose ‘capitalism, competition, service and price ‘then we will choose.
Now, here comes the scare tactics these politicians use, and I quote, ‘local communities have no say in sitting a landfill.? ‘DePalma says we have to look at new technologies so we don’t have landfills. If we do, then the landfills won’t come here and I, the government, will help you poor citizens again and protect you from those bad things. Well he just said we don’t have a choice, so even if we do, this single sourcing it still means we don’t have a choice where landfills go, correct?
This also shows us DePalma does not believe in ‘we the people.? We do have a choice and we always have a choice, the government is supposed to work for us, the people. As soon as they forget that, we have a problem. DePalma should say government will present all the facts and will hide nothing. The government will let the people choose and for laws regarding landfills he will help us, ‘the people,? fight that law so we have a choice where landfills are located. He will help us fight no matter how we feel about using one waste hauler or two or three.
So since DePalma has taken the time to write about how he is just trying to save us money, look out for us and keep landfills away, I would like to make a suggestion. DePalma, spend your time today writing down the facts and stop with the politics. You, sir, obviously support this. I assume you are a reasonably intelligent man and you had to form your opinion around facts. I would like to see those facts that you formed your opinion around; I would like to see examples of ‘all? other communities that have done this and then show me a map of the closest landfill to those communities. I would like to see this new technology and tell me who has the technology and who does not. I would like to see you present ‘all? the facts you formed your decision on and then I will give you my decision.
If you are going to make a comparison about the natural gas project, please tell me how many homes are not on the project and what their average bill is. Moreover tell us the ‘significant amount of money saved? so I know what it costs to lose my choice and my freedom.
What scares me most is when you say ‘when we have the facts.? Does this mean you don’t have the facts and you formed your opinion on something else, and what could that something else be?
The federal government and now our local government are trying to take away more and more freedom, thus’socialism. Be careful folks, it starts small and quiet and then next thing you know it is here.
We elected our government officials to the office they control and we can take them out of office just the same, they work for us, THE PEOPLE.
‘Don’t tread on me.? God Bless America. David Saroli
