A year ago the Board of Education named volunteers to a “reproductive health” (sex education) committee. Their recommendation to the Board is basically a “say no” approach. The Board took no action.
Jo and Jerry Niazy, owners of Jean’s restaurant in Oxford, have been named Citizens of the Year by the Oxford Chamber of Commerce.
Nancy Kraft of Oxford Hills Golf and Country Club, has been elected president of the Oxford Chamber of Commerce. It’s a 2-year term.
Oxford High senior Krista Stransky has been named to the academic All-State basketball team. She carries a 4.0 grade point average.

A three day blast of freezing rain, wet snow and slashing winds caused the closing of schools and many businesses this week. Oxford policemen Bob Huston and Stephen Burnham were injured when their patrol car smashed into a utility pole during the storm. Stores ran out of milk, bread, shovels and beer.
Oxford schools have received a federal grant of $10,000 to start a pre-school program.
Five proposals were on Tuesday’s school ballot. One for remodeling passed, the other four for a new high school, site, pool and auditorium failed; the latter two by 2 to 1 margins.
Anna Marie Cummings is Oxford’s First Baby of the Year.

Oxford attorney Robert Parenti told Oxford Lions Club members about zoning of Oxford Township when he appeared before them as guest speaker this week.
Young Doug Chartrand landed an eight pound, 32 inch pike while ice fishing on Lakeville Lake Friday.
Detroit Edison sited the Charles Hubble Farm on Granger Road as an example of modern farming. Gutters for the 52 head of cattle are cleaned by electric power in 15 minutes, and the silo unloader and four Surge milkers are big time savers.
