Girls cross country will be young this season

Only one runner remains from Clarkston’s three straight girls cross country state title teams, senior Jenna Leach, but Cross County Coach Jamie LaBrosse is still optimistic about this season.
‘We return two runners Jenna Leach and Kristen Smith,? LaBrosse said. ‘As far as our first meet goes I have five girls who have never run a high school cross country race. They are all freshman and sophomores. As far as training goes they are doing real well. They are running up their rate with some of our top runners. It’s going to be interesting to see what they do when it comes race time because racing is a little different than training. I’m excited about what I’ve seen so far. They are young, hungry and we are underdogs.?
LaBrosse said Leach and Smith will have to help him bring along the other girls.
Originally, LaBrosse had three runners returning this season, but sophomore Stephanie Morgan moved to Ohio. Morgan finished sixth in the state last season as a freshman.
Girls LaBrosse hopes will help fill some of the voids are Tiffany Kincaid, Katie Vandette and Bailee Braunreuther. The Wolves open the season at the Cavalier Classic on August 31.
