Goodrich fights for traffic light

Goodrich – Transportation officials have denied an Erie Street-State Road traffic light request, but village officials are still trying.
After two informal and two Michigan Department of Transportation traffic counts, MDOT officials determined last fall traffic at the intersection wasn’t sufficient to meet warrants for a light.
Because of a steep hill located just south of the intersection, Village of Goodrich Administrator Jakki Sidge is fighting to re-open the case, based on sight distance, not traffic count.
‘It’s a matter of not being able to see adequately from the cross street,? said Sidge.
Motorists trying to turn onto M-15 from East Hegel Road or Erie Street need to be able to see a minimum of 450 feet. In addition, traffic traveling through the area at speeds higher than the posted 45 mph create a risky turning situation, Sidge says.
After asking MDOT officials to make turns onto M-15 from the cross streets, officials agree the intersection may be lacking the necessary sight distance and are again looking into the possibility of installing a traffic light there.
