If the Goodrich girls soccer team had any rust from their spring break, they had a funny way of showing it.
The Martians won two home games, 4-1 against North Branch May 2 and 7-1 against Hemlock May 1 to improve their record to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in Genesee Area Conference play.
Against North Branch, Natalie McCormick tallied two goals for the Martians, while Amanda Bishop and Meredith Mayberry added one apiece. The Martians peppered North Branch with 24 shots, while Goodrich goalkeeper Alicia Williams faced only six North Branch shots.
The Martians shared the wealth in the win the previous day against Hemlock. Bishop notched two goals for Goodrich, while McCormick added one goal and five assists. Goodrich also received goals from Mayberry, Jessica Engler and Hayley Smith.
Goodrich coach Nigel Barnett said with the league portion of the season in full swing, the Martians have to pace themselves. ‘It puts more pressure on this side of the season,? he said. ‘We just don’t have to make sure we don’t get burned out. We’re playing three days a week.?
The Martians return to action today when they travel to Lake Fenton for a key league matchup at 4:30 p.m.
