Attorney Jennifer Manley was the top vote-getter against two competitors in the Aug. 5 primary for an opening for the 67th-2nd Division Genesee District Court seat.
Manley, a 1992 Goodrich High School graduate, snagged 4,176 votes, topping Davison Township Trustee Matthew Karr with 3,228 and 2,058 votes for Flint attorney Lori Tallman who received 2,058.
The 67-2 incorporates Burton, Davison, Goodrich and Otisville and Atlas, Davison, Forest and Richfield townships.
She will face-off against Karr in the November election for the seat on the bench
‘I cannot begin to thank all of the individuals who worked so hard knocking on doors, making phone calls, putting up yard signs and standing at the polls for our campaign,? said Manley, in a statement after the election. ‘Looking at the election results, it is truly humbling to have so much support in each and every corner of the district. I have met so many amazing people over the course of this election. If elected it would be an onor to serve each and every resident as their judge.?
Manley previously served 12 years as assistant Genesee County prosecutor and currently works in a private practice.
Karr is from Davison Township.
‘I look forward to the general election and the opportunity to continue on the campaign trail, meeting the residents in our district,? said Karr, after Tuesday’s election.
‘I appreciate all the support I received for the primary and my team is excited for the next stage of this process.?
If elected Manley will replace current Genesee District Judge John L. Conover, who could not seek re-election since the Michigan Constitution does not allow individuals 70 and older to be elected to a state judicial office.
