Learn about health and safety for children at the Family Health and Fitness Expo, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, March 27, at Clarkston Community Education, 6558 Waldon Road.
The Family Health and Fitness Expo focuses on element younger age groups earlier in the morning and on teens for the afternoon portion.
Activities for parents with elementary school age children start at 9 a.m., including Bike Rodeo, gymnastics zone by Stars and Stripes Gymnastics, vision checks for preschools by the Lion’s Club, Detroit Children’s hospital T.R.I.P. Program, and blood pressure checks by Oakland University’s Student Nurse Association. Morning keynote speaker Dan Houston, Oakland County’s Youth Fitness Director of the Year, discusses childhood obesity at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper addresses students, eighth grade and up, and parents at 1 p.m., regarding ‘sexting? and other crimes associated with cell phones and computers.
Clarkston District Council PTA and Independence Township Parks and Recreation host the program, supported by more than 20 local groups and businesses.
Raffle prizes include gift cards from Target, Family Video, and P’fino’s, and a Roger’s Chiropractic gift certificate valued at $400 for a spinal exam, x-rays and four adjustments.
‘Our goal is to help deliver quality healthy living programs to the Clarkston community,? said Dawn McLennan, co-coordinator of the PTA Council Heath and Wellness Committee. ‘Within the next couple of years, each PTA will have a Health and Wellness Council.?
