A Baldwin Road man returned to his home on Thursday morning to find a big surprise, a vehicle parked in his driveway and two men who appeared to be leaving his house.
The 59-year-old homeowner told the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department that he had returned to his house near Judah Road about 10:30 a.m. on March 17, and saw a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup parked in his driveway, near the door to his home.
According to the OCSD report, the man saw two white males between the vehicle and his house. He pulled his vehicle in the driveway, blocking the truck, and asked who the people were and what they were doing there.
One of the men said they were looking for someone named ‘Tom,? and the homeowner said no one of that name lived there. He was asked to move his vehicle so the men could leave, and at that time the homeowner moved his revolver so they could see it and said he was calling the sheriff’s department.
Both men got in the vehicle, and they tried to leave but couldn’t because the homeowner was still blocking the driveway. The homeowner said the two men, along with a white female who was in the truck, got out and walked away behind his house.
The homeowner called 911 and waited for the police.
OCSD deputies set up a perimeter and searched on foot, with dogs from the K-9 unit, and also by helicopter, with negative results.
As a precaution, two Lake Orion schools, Carpenter Elementary on Joslyn Road and Waldon Middle School, on Waldon Road between Joslyn and Baldwin, were locked down and students had indoor recess.
The homeowner found that only a small amount of costume jewelry and some other small items were missing from the home.
OCSD deputies also found four to five canvas bags with handguns, that were removed from the bedroom and found lying on the living room floor.
‘They had some guns that were stolen property,? OCSD Lieutenant Bruce Naile, commander of the Orion Substation, said. ‘They had moved them and they were found by the door.?
The homeowner’s metal gun cabinet was knocked over and lying on the living room floor.
Nail said the woman registered to the suspects? vehicle, a 27-year-old Pontiac resident, was found to not have anything to do with the break-in.
The woman was arrested after the incident on Thursday and was later released.
Naile said the other two subjects, a 25-year-old Pontiac man and a 41-year-old Leonard man, were arrested in Oakland Township on March 19 by the OCSD Fugitive Apprehension Team, and were scheduled to be arraigned on charges of home invasion on March 21.
