Here we got into the second half of 2010

Hold it! Stop right there! And, as Barney Fife (Don Knotts) used to say as a deputy on Mayberry, RFD, ‘Just a gol darn minute.?
There’s something you readers should think about. I ain’t just another pretty face, nor am I just another flatulence.
How many people do you know that have been quoted on the back cover of a hard cover book?
Well, you know one now. Bob Parenti’s latest book, The Giant Killer, will carry my comments:
‘The Giant Killer will create emotions you didn’t know you had. Bob tears apart the judicial selection process in a way that makes you want to order another round. But, his review of four ‘billion dollar? to goal cases will certainly hold you attention.?
The Parentis and Shermans were friends for a decade or three when he was Oxford’s attorney. Then he joined the Willie Gary law firm in Stuart, Florida. In semi-retirement he’s written two books.
The first was a love story from his wife’s collection of letters he wrote her during WWII, also a good read.
Let me get back to the judicial selection thing. Last week Elena Kagen was before the head-nodders-to-everything Obama sends them.
Sen. Arlen Specter asked Kagen three times, ‘Did you write this?? It was something from her past. Twice she avoided answering. The third time she said, ‘Well it’s certainly my handwriting!?
But, she would not say she wrote it. Welcome to the judicial selection process.
And, of course, she maintains she will be an impartial jurist. I’ll never believe she will not be influenced by past written opinions.

There are many reasons I can’t support AARP.
They all have to do with it being a huckster organization trying to get us to give them our money for investments, retirement, insurance, etc.
But, now comes a credit card for son Jim at our address, alleging he’s old enough to belong to that old folks? organization. But, if he does sign up now he’ll get a magazine and travel bag for his $16 a year.

? Mickey Hiatt says, ‘There’s more cotton in an Aspirin bottle than in the swimsuits nowadays.?
? My daughter’s friends? daughter . . . ok, this 10-year-old asked her mother, ‘Can I shave my arm pits?? The mother said, ‘Yes, as soon as you start brushing your teeth and combing your hair.?
? From Ray Stevens? latest release, ‘We the People?, which I don’t recommend unless you’re really into the GOP, ‘If Jesus can get by on 10 percent, then so can Uncle Sam!?
? Surely you’ve heard of ‘Wheel of Fortune?, the tv quiz show hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White. I thought about trying out to be a contestant next time their recruiters are in Michigan. Then I paid particular attention to Pat’s lead-in to solving a question: He says to the contestants, ‘Grab you devices!? That’s when I knew I’d never get selected.
? I spent about two weeks in what was considered the war zone during WWII before Japan’s surrender. For that, our ship’s captain got the Navy to give our ship’s crew a star for our Pacific bar. I’m talking about the bars you see decorating the left uniform chest of admirals and generals. Having experienced the little requirement it takes to get a battle star, I don’t have much respect for those displaying such. To me, the sight is a reflection of egotism, self-importance and bragging. Humility is not displayed. Of course, that’s just my opinion, and you know what that’s worth.
