Hockey team hits the ice, takes a shot at league title

The Wildcat hockey team has a Flint Metro League title on its wish list this season.
Coach Dave Hague is in his second year and sees improvement on this year’s squad.
And Hague noted that other coaches in the FML acknowledge that the league, from top-to-bottom, is pretty balanced.
It should make for some exciting hockey as well as an opportunity for the Wildcats to emerge and take a shot at the league title.
The team has won one of its first four non-league games and Hague noted all of the contests were very competitive and could have gone either way.
‘It’s been a good start. We have been very competitive,? he said. ‘We are better this season.?
The team has four returning forwards and three returning defensemen who give the Wildcats a solid nucleus. The returning forwards are Mike Jacovetti, who also will wear the Captains as well as Nick Roop, Josh Henderson and Johnny Thompson.
Returning defensemen are Justin Zigelbaur, Alex Ignagni and Brian Simpson.
New and important additions to the lineup are Adam McLusky, Anthony Seferian, Steven Smith and Alex Hoffman.
Hague said Hoffman, a junior, already has shown indications he will be one of the star players in the Flint Metro League. He is one of the assistant captains on the team as is Josh Henderson.
‘Alex has been a standout on offense so far and Justin has been our defensive standout, Hague said.
Goaltending will be handled by senior Pierce Aman and sophomore Travis Collier.
Both have played very well so far for us. Travis has been a plus and a surprise because he is new to the team. Hague said.
Even though the team has a good group of returning starters, Hague said the group is still relatively young, with only five seniors on the squad.
‘We have a very good group returning and it is good to see them coming along so well,? Hague said.
The team opens its Flint Metro League season on Saturday at Flint IMA Sports Arena in a 1 p.m. game against Clio.
