Second-graders in Theresa Giberson’s class at Daniel Axford Elementary celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by creating poetry and mosaics honoring the civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968.
‘He helped people get together, black and white, so they could be friends because before they weren’t allowed to,? said second-grader Alex VanBuhler.
Using the world ‘freedom? as their inspiration, the talented students created acrostic poems.
Then they utilized ripped pieces of colored paper to create mosaic portraits of Dr. King, which they placed above their poems.
Each tiny piece of paper in each mosaic represented a person Dr. King has impacted over time. ? CJC
