Icers competitive in evenly matched league

If you’re looking for some competitive hockey, the Flint Metro League is the best ticket around.
Oxford Coach Dave Hague predicted the league was evenly matched and thus far, the 3-3 Wildcat’s league record bears it out. Brandon is leading the league with a 5-0 record but the Blackhawks have barely squeaked by Oxford and other league opponents.
In fact Brandon needed a goal late in a matchup against Oxford to scrape out a 3-2 victory.
The Wildcats led 1-0 and 2-1 in the game before Brandon tied it late in the second period and then scored late in the third to seal the win.
Alex Hoffman netted a goal and an assist and Mike Jacovetti also picked up a goal and an assist.
In another league game on Saturday, the Wildcats clipped Clio, 6-1.
Johnny Thompson scored a hat trick in the game, while Brian Simpson, Jacovetti, Anthony Saferian also scored.
Hague praised the play of defensemen Justin Ziegelbaur and Alex Ignagni in the game. Ziagelbaur picked up two assists and Ignagni got one assist.
Hoffman, who moved to defense in the Clio game, collected three assists in the game and is leading the FML in scoring. Shaun Madsen and Saferian got two helpers each.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats will play Lapeer West at 7:15 p.m. at the Polar Palace in Lapeer. Oxford plays Goodrich at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Polar Palace.
