Dear Editor:
I recently attended a meeting where Margaret Bartos spoke of the need for a new Senior/Adult Activity Center. The Parks and Recreation Commission did a study of the usage of the Independence Township Senior Center buildings. The study was for the months of February and March of 2006. They found the use of the two senior center buildings by other groups was equal to the number of hours used by the seniors. These groups include Youth Assistance, and the Recreation Department, which has Karate classes and therapeutic recreation events plus many other classes, and non-profit groups. If you question the need for a new Senior/Adult Activity Center, I urge you to visit the two senior buildings to see for yourself how the buildings are inadequate for our present needs.
