It’s something every golfer fantasizes about, but only a few achieve ? the coveted hole-in-one.
For Scott Jensen, that fantasy turned into reality Friday, Aug. 19 at the Boulder Pointe Golf Club in Oxford Township.
‘It’s an accomplishment I’d been hoping for and wanting, but never thought I’d do it. My heart was pumping really hard ? it was something else,? said the 46-year-old Mayfield Township resident. ‘Everyone’s lifelong dream is to get a hole-in-one at least once. The other lifelong dream is to play Augusta, which is where they play the Masters (Tournament).?
Jensen scored his hole-in-one on the fourth hole of The Peaks, one of three nine-hole courses that make up Boulder Pointe. The hole is a par three.
‘Typically, a hole-in-one happens on a par three because it’s a shorter hole,? he explained. ‘The object of a par three is to be on the green with your tee shot and then (complete the hole in one or two putts). This par three is not particularly difficult.?
Due to the hole’s position relative to the tee box, Jensen missed witnessing his moment of glory. ‘Unfortunately, I didn’t see it,? he said. ‘The way this hole’s set up, it’s a relatively high, elevated tee box, so you hit down over one of those lakes to the green. The hole was up close to the front of the green and the tee box was set back, so I didn’t see it. But the three other guys I was playing golf with, they were all up there watching my shot and they all saw it . . . They said ‘it’s in the hole? and I’m like ‘no way.??
Although the hole itself wasn’t tough, Jensen’s 109-yard shot was an impressive feat. ‘They said it went over the pin and back into the hole, so I spun it back in,? he explained. ‘That’s a difficult thing to do for an amateur.?
Jensen’s been playing golf since he was a teenager and this hole-in-one is the crowning achievement of more than 30 years of practice and play.
‘I guess I’m in rare company since many people have played golf all their lives and never got a hole-in-one,? he said. ‘It’s definitely an exciting accomplishment and one that I’m very of proud of. There are professional golfers who don’t have holes-in-one.?
When he’s not hitting the links, Jensen works as a pharmaceutical representative for Teva Respiratory.
