Looking to find that album you’ve always wanted or even a decent guitar to practice on?
Well, look no further than downtown Oxford at the new independent music store, Jimz Jamz.
Jimz Jamz opened December of last year and makes its home in the former Oxford Wine & Beverage building (24. S. Washington). It is owned by Jim and Ronda Angelo, residents of Oxford.
The Angelo’s and their two young children moved from Warren to Oxford after numerous trips to visit friends. The only problem they noticed was the lack of music stores.
‘The desire to open a music store had been building for quite some time,? he said.
Angelo’s interest in recorded music, playing guitar and piano put the fire in him to open the store downtown so other music lovers could also satisfy their needs.
‘I saw the opportunity and thought I would try it,? he said.
Angelo took a temporary leave of absence from his position at his family collection company to pursue opening the store, and Jimz Jamz was born.
Jimz Jamz carries over 400 vinyl records, Angelo’s personal collection he jokes were ‘stolen from his mother and father,? 2,500 CDs, 2,000 being new titles and 500 used.
The store accepts trade-ins on your used CDs or albums too.
From rock, to classical to R & B and contemporary Christian, Angelo can order any music not found in the store from his catalog.
So far, the owners said business has been good, and its regular customers have been very ‘supportive.?
Not only does Jimz Jamz sell CDs and albums, but also equipment like guitar strings, amplifiers, speakers, used and consignment guitars and music books.
DVDs of old favorites, like the ‘Bob Hope Show? and ‘I Love Lucy? can also be found, as well as children’s sing-a-long CDs.
‘Playing music and listening to music is for everyone,? Ronda said.
For students in band, instruments are available on a rent-to-own basis.
Trombones, flutes and clarinets run $20 per month, while an alto saxophone is $40 per month.
Angelo said he’d like to offer guitar lessons through a private teacher down the road, but right now he’s just trying to find out what Oxford residents need.
‘I just want to be positive and allow people to have fun,? he said. ‘We also want people to come here and find what they are looking for at a competative price.?
Jimz Jamz? grand opening will be held on Saturday, March 25. Business hours will be extended that day. As part of the live entertainment, please join us and welcome Martin Ban Dyke, the new morning host on WQKL FM, Ann Arbor’s 107.ONE and formerly of 101.9, as he spins tunes from 3-6 p.m. Entertainment earlier in the day to be announced.
