The Brandon School District and SCAMP are the beneficiaries of a recent local fund-raising effort.
The Fr. George Ging Council #6824 of the Knights of Columbus, based out of St. Anne Catholic Church, 825 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville, raised a total of $2,161 in donations from their annual Tootsie Roll drive, on March 19-20.
Gary Putt, a member of Council #6824, chaired the council’s drive this year.
The money raised will be donated to the special education program in the Brandon School District, as well as SCAMP, a camp for special education students based in Clarkston, which attracts several special education students in Brandon Township.
Ken Sheperd, Grand Knight for Council #6824, said the amount of money saved was about the same as last year.
‘We appreciate all the community support,? he said. ‘It’s very gratifying to see such an outpouring of support on an annual basis. It’s (Ortonville) a special community.?
