Kids love to have fun, and they’re bound to have lots of it at the Third Annual Labodie Park Day Aug. 16 at the Addison Township Hall.
The park is open to the public and the free events that day will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Among that day’s events will be an all-play baseball game, pirate treasure hunt, sack race, balloon toss and relay race. Prizes will be awarded, and there will be free hot dogs and drinks.
The all-play baseball game is open to kids of all ages. The ages usually range from three years old to 15, said Joe Schnur, one of the event organizers. They’ll use a plastic bat and ball at the event.
‘We tell the 15 year-olds not to hit the ball too hard,? Schnur said. ‘We guide the younger kids when they run. Otherwise, they tend to run to centerfield or run the bases backwards.?
Schnur said that sometimes two players have occupied the same base at once.
For the pirate treasure hunt, kids will be given a little map to hunt for a treasure chest that’s a box about 10 inches long.
This booty, though, will be hidden in the weeds with the treasure (gold-colored coins with chocolate inside) given out to the kids.
Prizes for first through third place will be awarded at the event.
Schnur said the whole idea is to get kids outside and having fun.
