After being dogged by the weather two weeks ago, Lake Orion’s rescheduled Dog Days of August was a success. Residents and their pooches traveled in packs to the village where Doggie Mayor Dino Hogan was elected. Dino, brought by Mike and Amy Hogan, is a rescued five-year-old Great Dane.
Izzy the chihuahua was selected to be mayor pro-tem in case Dino is unable to perform any of his mayoral duties.
Other title winners included Moses the Great Dane for biggest dog, FiFi LaRou the yorkshire terrier for cutest, Oxford the bulldog for ugliest, Mayor Dino for best costume, Happy for best singer, Elliott the basset hound for best trick and Charlie for lool-alike.
The fair-weather Saturday also held Oxford-Addison’s Youth Assistance’s Duck Race.
The fund-raiser, in which participants bought numbered toy ducks for $5 each, generated $2,018 for Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance and $2,293 for Orion Area Youth Assistance. A total of 1,362 ducks were sold.
