Land Conservancy sets annual meeting

The North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy will hold its annual Spring Membership Meeting on Saturday, May 3. The event will be held at the Springfield Township Civic Center located alongside the Shiawassee River Corridor at 12000 Davisburg Road in Davisburg.
The morning begins at 10 a.m. and the public is invited to attend.
This year’s program, “Gardening with Nature: Noah’s Garden and Beyond,” will be presented by Lillian Dean, Southeast Oakland County Water Authority’s Coordinator of Healthy Lawns and Gardens. Lillian is well known for teaching the citizens of the county a personalized approach to ecological principles. She will answer questions like: How does the home gardener determine what to plant, where and how? What lessons have been learned from ecological gardeners? Where can the interested gardener go for help and inspiration? Lillian will present slides illustrating on-the-ground examples from Oakland County.
Celeste Watts, a certified National Wildlife Foundation Backyard Habitat Consultant will speak about “Creating Habitat.” Since May 4 is International Bird Watching Day, Celeste will show how we can design our yards to attract a variety of birds and provide for them.
The program is free of charge and open to the public. Learn more about the NOHLC preservation initiatives and what citizens can do to work together for the conservation of our land.
Refreshments will be served, followed by a tour of the Springfield Civic Center’s unique rain garden. The garden incorporates the design and construction of a meandering dry bed, settling ponds and installation of native plants as part of the landscape architecture.
Nancy Strole, Springfield Township Clerk, will conduct the tour.
